Listen carefully: I have given you authority [that you now possess] to tread on serpents and scorpions, and [the ability to exercise authority] over all the power of the enemy (Satan); and nothing will [in any way] harm you. Luke 10:19, CSB
In a previous devotional I shared with you how my lamp had stopped working and I did not realize all the important functions that it offered until after it stopped working. It was not until I had a problem did I do research to find out how to resolve the problem that I found all of its attributes.
In the scripture above Jesus tells us that He has given us authority over all the power of the enemy(any sin, challenge, and temptation, etc. we will face in our Christian walk). And He says nothing will harm us. When we believe in Him and understand His word we have authority over our problems. The more we study and understand God’s word we can see how to walk in this authority He has given us.
I used to be very afraid of the power of the enemy. I wanted to have nothing to do with Satan, even though I knew through scripture we had the power over Him. I had seen so many things that showed the evil of him that I did not want to ever have to face Satan head on. What I did not realize it that I was facing him everyday with all the problems I was dealing with. Satan just approach me differently so I did not recognize him the way I had seen him behave before.
The problem I also had was that I did not know how to use the power God had given me. It was not until God sent me a book to read (Pigs In the Parlor) that I understood how to use this power. I had no idea that I was allowing Satan to make me feel like He was over me when in all truth I had the power over him! Can you imagine working on a job for someone who sends you through hell for years only later you find out that you are the owner of the company through family genealogy? That is exactly what it is like with Satan and all of his demons!
Unless we take the time to understand God’s word completely and spend time in the word reading and seeking God for clarity we will never know what power we have and how to use that power. I knew I had a lamp but I did not know how to use all of its power because I did not read the instruction manual. Have you taken time to sit with the owner of your manual and get clarity on what power you have and how to use it?
