The Prowling Enemy
And give no opportunity to the devil. Ephesians 4:27, ESV
I was looking at another scripture when the one above came in my view. I thought, “Oh wow that is a good scripture! I need to write about it.” As I sat writing, I wondered how do I give the devil opportunity? Then a thought came into my mind to read Ephesians 4.
It is believed that the Apostle Paul is the author of the Book of Ephesians. He wrote a letter to the church in Ephesus about how to live the Christian life. In Ephesians 4:26-27 Paul writes, Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil. Wow that is it! Our unresolved anger allows Satan an opportunity to get into our heads and cause havoc. We have to be so careful of what we invite into our minds. Scripture says, Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1Peter 5:8, ESV
Have you ever been so angry with someone that in your mind you walk through everything you would love to say and do when you see that person? We can feel our emotions build up as we prepare our minds on how we would handle the situation. We even go so far as to think how the other person might respond. All these thoughts have just given Satan the opportunity that he needed to get into our heads! He is actually the one putting the negative thoughts into our heads to create the scenes for us. When we do this we have moved away from hearing God, to hearing Satan. Satan is a master at his craft and we have to meditate on the word of God so that we recognize his attacks. His tactics have-not changed, but because we are not equipped in the full armor of God we cannot recognize them coming. At all times even when we have righteous anger, we have to be careful to release it to God so that we don’t open the door for the enemy in our hearts! Amen!
