God Heard, God Remembered
God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. So God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them. Exodus 2:24-25, NIV
I was reading over the story of Moses when I came upon the passage above. The Holy Spirit said, "Write it down.” I wrote the scripture down and then he began to share with me what it meant that he “heard and he remembered.” He heard their cry for help and he never forgot his covenant with Abraham. He just had to make sure the Israelites were ready for what was ahead before he moved them.
God said that when we pray for something, He examines to see if we are ready to receive what we are requesting. He will not move us or bless us with the next thing until we are prepared. He said usually there is a test to make sure we can handle what will come before us. Just as God heard Israel, He hears us to. He said if movement has not happen in our lives there is still some maturing that needs to happen. So, we need to stay on the vine a little longer!
My husband and I were ready to give our son a car at seventeen, but he was not ready to receive it. He had not taken any test or prepared himself to drive and therefore we did not give him a car. We “heard” our son’s request for a car and we “remembered” what he asked for, but we did not move until we knew he was prepared. We made sure that he had done everything necessary before we moved with giving him the car. How much more will God do the same for us!
